Mother and Two Children Injured in Crash

Vigo County—This morning at 7:55, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Greencastle Road and Kyle Avenue in the northeastern part of the county. The crash slightly injured a mother and her two sons.

Preliminary investigation revealed a white 1996 Ford truck, driven by 38-year-old Jason Smith of Clinton, IN., was eastbound on Kyle Avenue approaching Greencastle Road. Jason Smith failed to completely stop for a stop sign at Greencastle Road and struck a northbound black 2009 Saturn in the rear driver’s side area. The Saturn was driven by Katrina Smith, age 25, of Terre Haute, IN.

Katrina Smith and her two sons, Brody Dalle Ave, age 4 and Brayden Dalle Ave, age 5 were all transported to Union Hospital; Katrina for back and leg pain and the boys for minor lacerations from flying glass and routine exams. Brody and Brayden were restrained in child restraint devices which significantly reduced their injuries and quite possibly saved their lives.

Jason Smith was not injured, but was cited for disregarding a traffic control device.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Brandon Mullen. Assisting were Otter Creek and Nevins Township fire departments and Trans Care EMS.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
