Here are a few safety tips to protect you from Identity Theft:

-          Don’t give out your personal information over the phone.

-          When receiving calls from someone claiming to be from your bank, double check you are speaking to a bank representative by calling the representative back using the phone number listed on your bank statement.

-          Shred all documents that have your personal information.

-          Never deposit mail in an overflowing mailbox. If possible, use the mailbox drop box located inside a post office.

-          Remove mail from your mailbox promptly.

-          If you’re planning to be away from home and can’t pick up your mail, have a friend/neighbor collect your mail for you or call the US Postal Service (1-800-275-8777) to ask for a “vacation hold”.

-          When using your debit card, cover the key pad with your free hand when entering your PIN (personal identification number).

I encourage you to pass these safety tips along to family and friends, and as always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Deputy Yesenia Holwager
