Wanted Felon Arrested After Vehicle Pursuit

On December 10, 2014, at approximately 10:00 PM an Officer with the Anderson Police Department observed a white Nissan Pathfinder traveling southbound on Highway 273. The officer conducted a records check on the vehicle and found it registered to Nathan STEELE, age 44, of Cottonwood. The records check revealed STEELE to have six active felony warrants for his arrest.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, however STEELE accelerated and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit went from the area of Highway 273 into Cottonwood along Ballsferry Rd., reaching speeds of approximately 75 MPH.

The vehicle failed to safely negotiate a turn in the area of Balls Ferry Rd. and Trefoil Ln. This caused the vehicle to go onto a gravel road along the railroad tracks in the area. While driving on the gravel road the vehicle flipped onto its side. STEELE exited the vehicle and attempt to elude officers on foot.

Anderson Police Department K-9 Aero was deployed. STEELE was warned that if he did not surrender the canine would be deployed and he would be bit. STEELE surrendered to the canine and was taken into custody without further incident.

STEELE’s vehicle was impounded and he was booked into the Shasta County Jail on his six felony warrants. Additional charges of felony evading, resisting arrest, and trespassing on railroad property, are being sought through the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
