Indiana State Police Lab Personnel Receive Service Awards

Indianapolis– Major Steven Holland of the Indiana State Police Laboratory Division recently recognized two State Police lab personnel for their continued excellent service to the community during a meeting of ISP lab employees.

Director of Forensic Analysis Section, Eric Lawrence, received an award recognizing his thirty years of service. Lawrence has nearly forty years experience as a Forensic Scientist. He has served as a Forensic Scientist for the California State department of Justice and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Crime Lab Laboratory, also in California. He also served as Assistant Laboratory Director for the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement. Lawrence started his career with the Indiana State Police in 1984 when he was hired as the Unit Supervisor of the Trace Evidence Unit. In 1991 Lawrence was promoted to the Director of the Forensic Analysis Section of the Indiana State Police Laboratory Division.

As director, Lawrence is responsible for the management of the Quality Assurance Program associated with the scientific disciplines within the laboratory. He has made over 200 forensic science presentations to local and state police officers throughout Indiana. Lawrence also provides specialized training for justice’s attending Indiana Judicial Conferences, the Indiana Coalition of Court Alcohol and Drug Services, the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association, Indiana Probation Officers and the Governor’s Commission for a Drug Free Indiana.

Mr. Lawrence has testified as an expert in excess of 500 criminal matters in California, Illinois and Indiana courts pertaining to issues related to the examination of physical evidence and has appeared before numerous state legislative committee hearings concerning proposed legislation dealing with forensic science.

Mr. Lawrence is a member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors. He is also a certified instructor at the Indiana law Enforcement Academy and a Laboratory Accreditation Inspector for the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors.

In 1974, Lawrence received a Bachelor of Science in forensic science chemistry degree, with honors from the University of California, Berkley.

 Mr. Lawrence lives with his wife in Hendricks County.

 

Sergeant Amy Gaul received an award recognizing her twenty years of service. Gaul was born and raised in “The Region” and graduated from Lake Central High School in 1987. She attended Indiana University and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in public affairs.

Gaul began her law enforcement career in 1994 upon graduation of the 51st Indiana State Police Academy.  She was assigned to the Pendleton Post where she worked road patrol duties until her transfer to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division in 2005. In 2013, Gaul was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Laboratory Division to serve as a Crime Scene Investigator at the Indianapolis District.

Sergeant Gaul resides in Hamilton County with her husband and two sons.
