DEPUTIES RECEIVE REGION C AWARD

Two (2) deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office were recognized recently by the Region C Board at their monthly meeting and received a Region C Award.
Region C is comprised of law enforcement agencies from Rutherford, Polk, McDowell and Cleveland Counties. Region-C recognizes officers who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Receiving a Region C Award was:

Deputy Max Gee and Cpl. Robert Owens were recognized for their actions in helping locate two suspects that committed a Common Law Robbery at the Dollar General in Danieltown.
On December 17, 2013 the Dollar General was robbed by a white female that told the clerk she had a gun. Witnesses told law enforcement that the female suspect got into a tan colored small car with another white female.
Deputy Gee was in the area and spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 221 South. Deputy Gee followed the vehicle and saw the vehicle turn into the driveway at a nearby residence. Deputy Gee then went and got Cpl. Owens and the two went back to the residence where the suspects were.
Deputy Gee and Cpl. Owens detained the suspects until criminal investigators arrived to finish the investigation.
After consent to search the vehicle was obtained, the clothing the suspect was wearing and also the money from the Dollar General was recovered.
An arrest was made within an hour of the robbery thanks to the watchful eye of Deputy Gee.

Deputy Gee was also recognized for an incident that occurred on February 16, 2014.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Main Street in Henrietta for a shooting. The suspect shot the victim in the stomach. The suspect left prior to deputies arriving on scene.
Deputy Gee located the suspect coming up the river bank not far from the crime scene.
Deputy Gee then took the suspect into custody and transported the suspect to the Rutherford County Detention Center so he could be interviewed by detectives from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. If it wasn’t for Deputy Gee the suspect could have fled the area and may not have been arrested as quickly as he was.

Lt. Warren Sprouse presented the deputies with their award.
