Two Vehicle Crash in Adams County Hospitalizes Both Drivers

(Adams County, IN)-The Indiana State Police responded to and investigated a two vehicle crash that occurred early this afternoon in rural Decatur that resulted in the two drivers being sent to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the investigation conducted by Senior Trooper Shaun Armes, at approximately 1:30 p.m. a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo operated by 19 year old Juliana M. Griffith of rural Decatur, was traveling westbound on County Road 900 N.  As Griffith approached the intersection with County Road 400 W, she failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection.

As a result, Griffith’s vehicle struck a 2010 Buick Enclave operated by 40 year old Denise Acosta of rural Decatur, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.  Griffith’s vehicle came to rest on top of a telephone box on the southwest corner of the intersection while Acosta’s vehicle struck an AEP utility pole near the west ditch, south of the intersection.  The airbags in both vehicles deployed and both drivers were seat belted at the time, which minimized the injuries sustained by both women.

Acosta was not able to exit her vehicle and had to be extricated by fire personnel at the scene.  Both women were transported to Adams Memorial Hospital as Griffith experienced a lower leg injury and Acosta sustained leg and upper torso injuries.  Griffith was cited for failing to yield the right of way.  Armes was assisted at the scene by the Adams County Sheriff Department, Adams County EMS, Preble Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department and AEP.
