Commercial Vehicle Driver Arrested for DUI
Vigo County—This afternoon at 1:29, Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Master Trooper Matt Ames was patrolling Interstate 70 near the six mile marker, when he noticed a westbound 2009 International tractor pulling a box trailer traveling 68 miles-per-hour in a 60mph zone. The vehicle was stopped and during conversation with the driver, Ames noticed classis signs of what appeared to be alcohol intoxication. A breath test at the Vigo County Jail revealed the driver’s BAC was .244%. Indiana law for intoxication is .08%. The driver was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail.
Arrested: Charles M. Smith, age 56, Wyandotte, MI.
Charges: Operating with a BAC of .15% or more (Misdmeanor)
Alcohol Intoxication Violation of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Misd)
Traffic citation for 68mph in 60mph zone (infraction)
The 2009 International tractor was pulling a box trailer loaded with auto parts from Grand Haven, Michigan to Fenton, Missouri. The trucking company was SA Express Inc of Romulus, Michigan.
Assisting was Trooper Brent Robinson.
