Clayton County residents can rest a little easier, now that Ishmael Carter, Desmond Nixon and Julius Thomas have been convicted of their crimes. The three engaged in a month long crime spree that terrorized the north end of Clayton County, that culminated with the murder of 44 year old Rosendo Cassariubias.The murder victim earned his living as a taxi cab driver, and was gunned down at the driver’s seat of his cab. Evidence proved the co-defendants deliberately planned these heinous crimes, simply to rob victims of their hard-earned money.The jury found the defendants guilty of their participation, including Carter with armed robbery; Nixon with malice murder, rape and armed robbery; and Thomas with felony murder and armed robbery. The case was prosecuted by Executive A.D.A. Kathryn Powers, A.D.A. Miguel Dominguez and A.D.A. Philip Curtis. Mr. Nixon was sentenced to Life Without Parole, Mr. Thomas was sentenced to Life, and Mr. Carter was sentenced to 12 years for his participation in the armed robbery.
