On December 6, 2014 at about 2:45 am, officers from the Escondido Police Department were dispatched to the area of Via Rancho Pkwy and I-15 regarding a serious injury collision. Officers arrived and located a single-vehicle collision on Loop Rd just east of I-15. The driver, 21-year-old Escondido resident Jon Stuart Kraus, had driven his 2001 silver Pontiac Bonneville off of the road and into a Eucalyptus tree, causing major damage to the car. Kraus sustained serious injuries and was transported to Palomar Hospital for treatment. The three passengers in the car sustained minor injuries but were not transported. Alcohol is believed to be a factor at this time.

The traffic investigation is ongoing at this time and is being conducted by Officer Tom Venable of the Traffic Division. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Officer Venable at the above phone number.
