A bicycle theft occurred in front of a business in Stevenson Ranch. The bicycle, a black “Diamondback” one speed bike with black rims, belonged to an employee who had chain locked the bicycle to a pole in front of the business. Here are a few safety tips for when at home:

-          Never open the door to persons you don’t recognize. Don’t be afraid to ask for identification.

-          Do not allow persons you don’t know into your home to use the phone. Offer to make the call for them.

-          Before entering your home, have your keys ready before you reach the door.

-          Close your blinds and drapes at night. Always lock your doors.

-          Do not let callers know you are home alone. Use “we” instead of “I”. Never give out personal information over the phone.

-          Post “beware of dog” signs as a crime deterrent on the exterior of your home whether or not you own a dog.

I encourage you to pass these safety tips along to family and friends, and as always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Deputy Yesenia Holwager
