Residential Burglaries – What to look for and how to report
As the Holidays approach, residential burglaries tend to increase. By staying vigilant and reporting suspicious activity in your neighborhood, we as a community can minimize crime and avoid becoming victims.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
- Strangers (and in some cases solicitors) knocking on doors to see if anyone is home. When there is no answer, they walk to the back of the residence and break in.
- Multiple suspects. Some may even be female or high school age. Other suspects may be waiting nearby in a vehicle and/or talking on a cell phone.
- Strangers in your backyard or your neighbor’s backyard that don’t belong.
- Vehicles in your driveway or your neighbor’s driveway that don’t belong.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO:
- If a stranger or solicitor knocks on your door, let them know you are home without opening your door.
- Be suspicious of stories of why they are there i.e.; looking for someone who does not live there.
- Immediately call the Torrance Police Department. Dial 9-1-1 for immediate police response or (310) 328-3456 for a non emergency.
- Take note of suspect descriptions such as gender, race, clothing, height, weight, age, hair color, eye color, tattoos, etc.
- Take note of vehicle descriptions, license plates, and direction of travel.
