City of Loma Linda Employee Arrested for Embezzlement

SUSPECT: Joseph Kim, 29 years of age a resident of Riverside
VICTIM: City of Loma Linda
SUMMARY: Over the past 4 years, Joseph Kim was employed by the City of Loma Linda and was in charge of the Verizon Wireless account for city employees.
Between the dates of October 2013 and August 2014, Kim purchased 151 cellular phones from Verizon Wireless. All of these phones were purchased without approval from city management. The charges for these phones were passed off monthly as standard charges and resulted in a total loss of more than $24,000 to the City of Loma Linda. As a result of these phones not being activated and being purchased at discounted rates, Verizon Wireless took a total loss of over $64,000.
On December 2, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., Sheriffs Detectives served a search warrant on Kim's residence. Detectives recovered supporting documentation and other evidence of the Embezzlement. Kim was interviewed and booked into the Sheriffs Central Detention Center. Kim posted bail and was released on December 2, 2014 at 11:00 p.m.
The investigation will be submitted to the District Attorney for review.
