Muncie Man Arrested For Felony Theft
Muncie – A Muncie man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he tried to leave the Muncie south side Wal-Mart with a cart loaded with over $250.00 worth of merchandise, which included two Keurig Coffee Makers and a cutlery set. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store located at 1509 E. 29th St. in Muncie.
Trooper Nate Raney, who was on duty but working a plain clothes detail, had stopped by the Wal-Mart and was approached by a Wal-Mart Asset Protection Officer that knew Raney from previous calls and arrests made at their store. She advised Raney that a suspicious male was about to push a cart out the doors without paying for the merchandise.
When Raney caught up to the man as he pushed the cart out the exit doors, he identified himself as a state trooper. The man took off running with Raney in pursuit. Raney was able to catch the suspect in the parking lot and place him under arrest.
Arrested for felony theft was Billy James Christian Evans, age 25 of Muncie. In addition Evans was found to be wanted on a warrant for Larceny/Theft out of the city of Marion, Indiana. He was lodged in the Delaware County Jail.
