Two Injured in Rollover Crash
Vigo County—Around 11:40 this morning, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Darwin Road just north of Cardinal Place.
Preliminary investigation revealed a northbound 2005 Ford F-150, driven by 41-year-old Tersh Scamihorn of West Terre Haute, IN., had came upon a bucket in the middle of the roadway. Mr. Scamihorn drove around the bucket and immediately pulled to the side of the road. As Scamihorn was attempting to remove the bucket from the roadway, a northbound 2004 Dodge Stratus, driven by 19-year-old Patrick McVey of West Terre Haute, attempted to drive around the bucket. In doing so, the McVey vehicle was left of center as a southbound vehicle was approaching. McVey applied his brakes and veered to the right to miss the oncoming vehicle and struck the rear of Scamihorn’s Ford pickup. The Dodge Stratus operated by McVey then flipped end over end multiple times.
Patrick McVey was treated at Union Hospital for complaint of head pain. His 19-year-old passenger, Monica Bryant of West Terre Haute, was treated at Union Hospital for complaint of head and neck pain. Tersh Scamihorn was not injured. McVey and Bryant were wearing vehicle restraints which undoubtedly reduced injuries and saved their lives.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Brandon Mullen. Assisting were Trooper Ted Robertson, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, West Terre Haute Police Department, Sugar Creek Fire/Rescue and Trans Care EMS.
No citations were issued and no pictures available.
