One Vehicle Crash on I-69 Sends Five to Hospital
Delaware County – This morning shortly after 8 a.m. an Allen County Sheriff’s Department Transport van rolled over onto its passenger side after the driver lost control on an ice covered roadway. Allen County Corrections Officer John Calvin Jr., age 26 of Fort Wayne, lost control of the van on the ice covered roadway as he drove south bound on I-69 at the 34 mile marker. Calvin was uninjured.
The van was transporting five inmates from the Allen County Jail to the Pendleton D.O.C facility when it crashed. All five inmates were transported to St. John’s Hospital in Anderson with minor injuries.
Brandon Woodrum, age 25 of Fort Wayne, and Travis Hornett, age 34 of Fort Wayne, were transported for a complaint of pain in the lower back.
Robert Franks, age 25, and Michael Smith, age 56, both of Fort Wayne, were transported for a complaint of pain in the shoulders and back. Robert Sleek, age 62, address unknown, was transported for a cut to the head. The van was considered to be a total loss.
Trooper Eric Perkins investigated the crash, and was assisted at the scene by the Daleville and Chesterfield Police Departments, Daleville EMS, Delaware County EMS and Seals Ambulance.
