Advisory

Phone scam requiring payment for missing jury duty. Never pay "government" callers demanding immediate payment.

Phone scams, where a caller is identified as a government employee (IRS, water and power, etc.) and demands immediate payment for an outstanding balance, are common. Drastic and immediate consequences await the call receiver if payment is not made.

The current scam occurring in Glendale appears to be a caller demanding payment for individuals missing jury duty. The caller identifies himself as a member of the sheriff's department.

Government agencies do not collect payments in this manner, including requiring people to buy debit cards and convey the serial number over the phone. If you receive such a call, you should not submit payment in any manner. If you are concerned, contact the agency that the caller says they represent.
