Intoxicated Subject Nearly Struck By Vehicle

Intoxicated Subject Nearly Struck By Vehicle

On Sunday, November 30, 2014 at about 1:18 AM, Anderson Police Officers were in the area of HWY 273 and Pinon Avenue when they observed a male adult subject walking west across HWY 273 against a red light into the path of a northbound vehicle traveling at about 45 MPH.

The male subject, who was known to the officers, as 56 year old transient, David Alan DEWALT, was accompanied by his dog who was walking, without a leash, with DEWALT into the path of the oncoming motorist. Due to DEWALT wearing dark clothing and his dog being mostly black in color, the motorist did not see DEWALT or his dog entering the lane of travel.

As DEWALT was in the roadway, one of the Anderson Police Officers, who was approaching the intersection heading southbound on HWY 273, activated his patrol vehicle’s horn to alert DEWALT who paused and stopped narrowly missing being struck by the northbound vehicle. Unfortunately, DEWALT’s dog did not stop for the officer’s horn and continued into the path of the northbound vehicle and was struck.

DEWALT and his pet were assisted into the back of a police vehicle and he and his dog were immediately transported to an animal hospital for treatment of the dog’s injuries sustained from the collision.

After dropping off the dog at the animal hospital, DEWALT was arrested for being so intoxicated he was a danger to himself and others. DEWALT was transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail for Misdemeanor Public Intoxication.

This marks the (12) time DEWALT has been booked into jail in 2014.
