Attempted Murder
This morning at about 1:41 am Burlington police were called to a report of a man who had been stabbed in Riverside Avenue at Colchester Avenue/Barrett Street. Preliminary investigation revealed that a fight between two groups of men ensued after a car the victim was riding in was struck by snowballs thrown by a group of people walking on Riverside Avenue. During the brief altercation, the victim was stabbed once in the neck. Witnesses and the victim have identified 21 year old Shoquan Glen of Burlington as the assailant.
Glen initially misidentified himself to police when questioned about the incident near the scene. Glen was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to the Burlington Police Department.
At the time of the call the victim, a 28 year old man from Burlington, had been transported from the scene to the Winooski Police Department by friends. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to the University of Vermont Medical Center where he was treated in the Emergency Department and then underwent surgery. The knife wound missed critical veins and arteries by ½ to 1 centimeter. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
Glen was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center on a preliminary affidavit alleging Attempted Second Degree Murder and False Information to a Police Officer. Judge Samuel Hoar held Glen without bail pending arraignment on Friday. At the time of his arrest Glen had outstanding arrests warrant for False Information to a Police Officer and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
