A Kona man has been charged with felony offenses after being arrested for beating his dog.

An officer on Patrol in Kona on Monday observed an man repeatedly punching his dog in a car on Palihiolo Street in the Kealakekua area. The Humane Society was called and police identified the man as 23-year-old Joshua White, who was wanted for a car theft from a body shop on Maiau Street in Kailua-Kona on October 7.

White was arrested and taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 12:40 p.m. Tuesday (November 25), detectives charged him with felony cruelty to animals, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree theft. His bail was set at $45,000.

He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance on Wednesday (November 26).
