Serious Traffic Accident On East H Street In Chula Vista

On 11/26/14, at about 3:20AM, Chula Vista Police Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East H Street on a report of a 2 vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers found 1 vehicle almost completely wrapped around a tree in the center median. The adult female driver of the car was trapped in the vehicle and believed to be alone in the car during the accident. The second vehicle involved in the collision was parked in the middle of the west bound lanes a short distance away from the other vehicle. The adult male driver of the second vehicle was standing near his car and did not seem to be injured. His vehicle had minor damage from the collision.

The Chula Vista Fire Department had to cut the female out of her vehicle and she was immediately air lifted to a trauma center for serious injuries. Witnesses on scene believed the two vehicles were involved in a road race when they suddenly crashed into each other. The male driver of the second vehicle was arrested for various charges related to racing and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. The male was later booked into the San Diego County Jail. The Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.

As of 5:00AM, all east bound lanes of East H Street are closed from I805 to Hidden Vista Drive. All traffic needing to get into the Terra Nova Plaza Shopping Center is urged to approach the area from the west bound lanes of East H Street and enter the parking lot near the Sports Authority store. CVPD is hoping to open an east bound lane by 6:30AM. West bound traffic on East H Street has been reduced to one lane from Hidden Vista Drive to the I805 North. Traffic may be reduced in the area up to 9:00AM.
