Indiana State Police Investigating Armed Suspect Shooting in Jasper County
Jasper County-The Indiana State Police at the request of Jasper County Sheriff’s Department is investigation a shooting that involved a Jasper County deputy late yesterday evening in northern Jasper County.
Yesterday, Tuesday, November 25th, 2014, at approximately 11:51 p.m. Jasper County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance call at a home in northern Jasper County. When they arrived a male subject, later identified as George Randall Woodward, age 39, appeared agitated and aggressive.
After the initial contact Woodward came back out of the house with a large knife; he then went back into the home and came out with a rifle. Jasper County officers ordered Woodward to drop the gun. He refused. Woodward then pointed the loaded rifle at an officer and one deputy fired a single round from his weapon, which struck Woodward in his shoulder.
Woodward was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary and is in stable condition. No officers were injured.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Department will release the name of their officer at their discretion.
