Cass County Native Recognized for 25 Years of Service with ISP

The motor carrier inspectors and troopers assigned to the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) are responsible for enforcing state and federal regulations on all commercial motor vehicles. CVED accomplishes this task by conducting vehicle and driver safety inspections, new entrant safety audits, and compliance reviews. CVED also enforces Indiana’s vehicle size and weight laws in an effort to reduce damage to Indiana’s highways. They also ensure commercial carriers are properly registered and paying their fair share of fuel tax dollars. CVED personnel also assist in the investigation of commercial motor vehicle crashes (post-crash inspections) and manage the annual school bus inspection program.

Recently, Larry Hood, a master motor carrier inspector for the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, was recognized for 25 years of service with the Indiana State Police. Hood started his career as a motor carrier inspector assigned to the Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post, where he worked for 10 years. In addition to the Ft. Wayne Post, Hood has worked out of the Indiana State Police posts in Bremen, Peru, and Lowell. He is currently assigned to the Indiana State Police scale facility on I-65 in northern Indiana.

Hood is certified as a level I commercial motor vehicle enforcement inspector. He also has a hazmat certification allowing him to inspect commercial motor vehicles transporting hazardous materials on Indiana roadways. For the last 25 years, Hood has conducted inspections on thousands of school busses to ensure they are safe to transport Indiana’s children.

Hood resides in Cass County with his wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Mariah.
