Bremen Post to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint

St. Joseph County – Indiana State Police Sergeant Maurice Wilkins has announced a sobriety checkpoint that will be held in St. Joseph County by Bremen Post Troopers. The checkpoint will start during the evening hours of Friday November 28, 2014.

The Bremen Post serves St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, and Kosciusko Counties. After the checkpoint troopers will conduct a saturation patrol looking for impaired drivers.

Motorists are asked to have their driver’s license and vehicle registration available when entering the checkpoint. This will help minimize the amount of time spent at the checkpoint. Motorists can expect short delays of only two to three minutes.

Sergeant Wilkins reminds the motoring public that checkpoints are also used to educate everyone of the ongoing efforts of the Indiana State Police. The goal is ultimately to reduce the number of impaired driving crashes and deter people from driving while intoxicated.

The public is encouraged to call 911 or the closest Indiana State Police Post when they observe another motorist that may be impaired. Be prepared to give a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.

A FEW PRECAUTIONS:

• Plan ahead and always choose someone to be the designated driver.
• Don’t get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you’ve been consuming alcoholic beverages.
• If you are impaired, please call a taxi or call a sober friend or family member to come and get you.
• If you are hosting a party, always offer alcohol-free beverages, and make sure that all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
• Remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk. Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think that they are about to drive while impaired.
