First Sergeant Promoted to Captain to Serve as Deputy Commander of the Laboratory Division
Indianapolis, IN-Recently, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter promoted First Sergeant Sid Newton to the rank of Captain to serve as Deputy Commander of the Indiana State Police Laboratory Division.
Newton is a native of Indianapolis. He attended Indiana University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice.
Newton began his law enforcement career in 1995 upon graduation from the 53rd Indiana State Police Academy. He was assigned to the Lowell Post and later transferred to the Lafayette Post. Newton also has served as a detective in the Drug Enforcement Division.
In 2007 Newton was promoted to Sergeant to serve as a Polygraph Examiner and in 2011 he was promoted to First Sergeant to serve as a Polygraph Unit supervisor.
Newton currently serves in the US Army Reserve with the Criminal Investigation Command.
Captain Newton resides in Shelby County with his wife and two sons.
