HOLIDAY HOME SECURITY
Chief Tejada and her staff want to share some safety tips with you as we head into the holiday season.
A CHECKLIST FOR PROTECTING YOUR HOME WHEN YOU’RE AWAY UNDER LOCK AND KEY
o Have you locked every door or window, including the
door to your garage?
o Have you secured your pet doors (if any)?
o Have you double-checked securing your sliding doors (if any)?
o If you have a home security system, have you activated it?
o Have you locked up your ladders, tools, and lawn furniture?
o Have you put your valuables in a safe or safety deposit box?
o Have you removed any “hidden” keys?
o Have you completed and submitted your Vacation House Check form?
KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR
Have you asked a trusted neighbor to:
o Watch your house?
o Hold onto your emergency contact information?
o Collect any newspapers, flyers, or mail that might arrive?
o Park a car in your driveway?
o Have you completed and submitted your Vacation House Check form?
ANYONE HOME?
o Have you considered putting lights, TVs, or radios on intermittent timers?
o Have you trimmed any overgrown trees or shrubbery?
o Have you considered installing motion-sensing lights?
o Have you avoided posting about your travel plans on social media like NextDoor ?
o Have you completed and submitted your Vacation House Check form?
We continue to do community outreach to encourage our residents to secure their property by locking doors and not leaving valuables in sight. We encourag community members to report ANY suspicious activity or persons (See Something-Say Something) as this has a tremendous impact on resource deployment, increasing presence in neighborhoods and deterring would be criminals. Call 289-4170 for suspicious activity/persons.
Our Vacation House Check form is available on our website-see link below. Please complete it and turn it in at the front counter. We also have our Citizen View program where residents and businesses can add the address of their private surveillance to our log and agree to share video footage with us should an incident occur in the vicinity of the camera.
