Hebron Man in Serious Condition after Crash with a Semi

Lowell, Lake County-A Hebron man is in serious condition after crashing into a semi, late yesterday evening, on State Road 2 and I-65.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Eric Rot revealed that at approximately 10:02 p.m., yesterday Saturday, November 22, 2014, a 2013 Peterbilt semi pulling a box trailer, owned by Marten Transport out of Mondovi, Wisconsin, and driven by Dean D. James, 59 of West Fork, Arkansas, was west bound on State Road 2 near I-65. James stated he began to make a left turn on a green arrow (at the traffic light located at the intersection) to go onto the I-65 southbound ramp. As he made the turn the light turned yellow. The light then changed quickly, turning into a green with yield to on-coming traffic, when his tractor was hit in the passenger side by a 2007 Chrysler, driven by Andrew Roe, 18 of Hebron, which was in the right lane going eastbound on State Road 2.

Roe was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with serious injuries. James was not injured.
James’ semi was loaded with 42,000 pounds of food product, no load was lost. Indiana Department of Environmental Management was called due to James’ semi losing diesel fuel after being hit. He had just filled up at the local truck stop with approximately 200 gallons of diesel fuel.

Both vehicles had to be towed.

Family was notified.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
