Chuck E. Cheese Shooters Arrested, #LASD Pico Rivera OSS
NARRATIVE: On September 28, 2014, a shooting occurred outside the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, in the city of Pico Rivera. When deputies arrived they discovered multiple rounds had pierced the exterior of the Chuck. E. Cheese and entered the interior, narrowly missing the numerous children and adults inside. The gunfire emanated from a gang-related confrontation in the parking lot of the business. Investigators from the Pico Rivera Station, Operation Safe Streets (OSS) Team were dispatched to investigate the shooting. Initially, none of the parties involved in the shooting were identified and investigators had very little to help further their investigation. After a month long investigation, investigators were able to identify the parties involved in the shooting. A series of search warrants were served in the city of Pico Rivera, as well as the city of Los Angeles, and four individuals were arrested or detained. The investigation culminated with the arrest of the suspects, who were identified as brothers, Jesse Ortiz MH/33 and Jimmy Ortiz MH/31 from Pico Rivera, with ties to an area gang. Two potential victims were identified, detained and later released. Investigators discovered the two suspects were the aggressors in the incident and initiated the shooting. On November 6, 2014, this case was presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Hard Core Gang Section. Charges of Attempt Murder, as well as Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling were filed against the suspects. The suspects are awaiting a preliminary hearing. Bail for Jimmy Ortiz has been set at $2,000,000.00 and bail for Jesse Ortiz has been set at $1,000,000.00.
