One hospitalized after last night's accident near IH-40 and Western...

On November 20, 2014 at approximately 10:00 PM, officers were dispatched to IH-40 and Western on motor vehicle collision/rollover.  Responding officers found that a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche had been east bound on I-40 approaching Western at a high rate of speed.  The Avalanche struck the rear of a 2006 Ford Fusion that was also eastbound, driven by Thomas Lance Gilley, WM, 23 of Amarillo.  The Avalanche lost control, went over a guard rail, down the concrete embankment, landed on Western St, rolled onto its side, and came to rest on the West I-40 south frontal road just east of Western Street.  The driver of the Chevrolet, Jentry Bryan Smith, WM, 20 was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Ford did not report injury.  The drivers knew each other and had left the same bar earlier.  Speed and alcohol are contributing factors in this collision.  The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept.
