11/19/14, press release: Suspicious/Threats

On the evening of November 19, 2014 the Burlington Police Department received a complaint reference social media threats directed at a variety of entities, including but not limited to, the Burlington High School, the President of the United States, and other government entities, and individuals.

Burlington Police Officers and Detectives began tracking these social media posts to better determine the source and the veracity of the threats. The Burlington High School administration was notified and together the decision was made to place the school into a modified lockdown. We believe, based on the limited information at that time, this precautionary step was prudent.

Early this morning the individual making the threats was identified as a juvenile male currently residing in the state of Minnesota. We have notified authorities in that region and they are in process of making contact. Due to the extended nature of the threats, Federal agencies have been advised as well.

At this time the modified lock down has been lifted at the Burlington High School and the Burlington Police will continue to communicate with Minnesota and Federal Agencies until this matter is resolved.
