***UPDATE 11-20-14***The suspect in this case, Jason Bryan Boyett WM 36 was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on charges of theft over $20,000 and evading in a motor vehicle.
DETAILS: On 11-19-2014, at 11:37 AM, officers responded to an auto theft report in the 2600 block of Harmony. Officers learned that a silver 2010 Toyota had been left running in front of a home. It was stolen. At around 12:15 PM, an APD officer in an unmarked patrol car saw the vehicle, with two white male occupants, pull out of a business on 34th Avenue. He followed and notified marked patrol units that he was behind the vehicle. The car pulled in at a restaurant near 34th and Danvers, then back onto 34th and continued westbound. A marked patrol unit tried to stop the vehicle on 34th, but the driver immediately accelerated and turned into the residential area north of 34th without stopping. Officers elected not to pursue. They sealed off the area and started searching for the suspects and vehicle. At about 12:30 PM, an officer located a WM in the parking lot of the apartments in the 6000 block of Belpree. They detained the man, the driver of the stolen vehicle, without additional incident. Shortly after that, the vehicle was found abandoned in an alley in the 6100 block of Adirondack. It was recovered and returned to the owner. Witnesses provided a description of the passenger from the stolen vehicle. Using that information, officers located the passenger that had been in the car at another apartment complex in the area. He was released pending investigation. The driver, a WM 36, has been taken to a local hospital for medical clearance. His name can be released when he is booked into jail.
