Visits to Homeless Encampments Net Five Arrests

During the early morning hours of Monday, November 17, 2014 at about 6:30 AM hours, Anderson Police Officers accompanied by members of the Anderson Fire Department and California Department of Fire conducted follow visits to several areas troubled by homeless encampments within the City of Anderson.

The areas visited were the wooded area located north and east of the I-5 N/B On-Ramp near North Street, the wooded area north of the Pleasant Hills Drive Subdivision, and wooded area south of Balls Ferry Road and west of I-5.

The focus of these visits was to address the community concerns regarding the health & safety situations associated with the homeless encampments in these areas.

During the visits to numerous encampments, the officers encountered multitudes of trash, debris, dangerous drug paraphernalia, and unsanitary living conditions.

A total of five persons were contacted, three of which were cited for various violations and two who were booked into the Shasta County Jail for warrants.
