(Albion, IN)-The Indiana State Police is investigating a crash between a minivan and a semi trailer that occurred on State Road 8 just west of County Road 150 E, late last night that sent the minivan driver to a Fort Wayne hospital.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mike Carroll indicated that last night at approximately 10:15 p.m., a 2000 Freightliner semi tractor pulling a box trailer and driven by 42 year old Meliton F. Silva from San Antonio, Texas, was pulling onto State Road 8 from the drive of Bosch Automotive. As the semi was making a wide turn onto the roadway, the trailer came unhitched, straddling the center line without lights on.
A 1999 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by 55 year Bradley S. Bonar from Albion was traveling westbound on State Road 8 when it collided with the front end of the trailer. As a result of the crash, Bonar was trapped inside of his vehicle before being extricated by the Albion Fire Department. He suffered hip and leg injuries and was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by Noble County EMS. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this crash and subsequent test results are pending. Silva was cited for driving left of center and this crash remains under investigation.
Agencies assisting at the scene were the Albion Police and Fire Departments, the Noble County Sheriff Department, Noble County EMS and Campbell’s Towing.
