APD investigating purse snatching that turned into robbery.

On Monday November 17th at 3:33pm, officers were sent to the Big Lots at 3510 I-40 East on a theft. Upon arrival officers spoke with the victim an H/F 39. The victim stated that she was shopping in the store and when she had her back to the shopping basket someone stole her purse. She stated she immediately began looking for someone with her purse, when she saw an H/M running out the front doors of the store. Believing this male was indeed the suspect, she pursued the suspect out into the parking lot where he got into dark colored Toyota 4 door. The victim stated she stood behind the suspect’s car in an attempt to keep him from leaving with her purse. While she was yelling for someone to help, the suspect began backing up his vehicle and struck the victim knocking her to the ground. The suspect continued backing and fortunately the tires or the bottom of the car did not strike her. The suspect then pulled forward and left the area. He is described as an H/M in his 30’s, 5’5, 140 lbs. The victim was treated at the scene and released. Her injuries are considered non-life threatening. Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Amarillo Police Department, or call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374.4400.
