On 11/14/14 at 0822 hours Chula Vista Police responded to a 911 call from an apartment at 376 Center Street, Chula Vista. The caller indicated that there was a stabbing occurring in the apartment. When Chula Vista Officers arrived they found a man bleeding from multiple stab wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex. That man was later identified as an off duty San Diego Police Officer. He received immediate medical attention. Other Chula Vista Officers made contact in the nearby apartment that called 911 and found a man with gunshot wounds. CVPD Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived, however t he man later died. Detectives from the CVPD Crimes of Violence Unit responded within minutes and are handling the investigation.


Although the investigation is ongoing, investigators learned the following from witness statements:
The victim, the off duty officer, lives at the apartment with his mother, father, and brother. All four were home at the time of the incident. The brother, who, according to family, has a history of mental illness, got into a physical confrontation with family members. The victim intervened to prevent his parents from being injured. The brother, who detectives have identified as the suspect, stabbed the victim (his brother) multiple times. The mother called 911 stating that one son was stabbing another. The victim was transported to UCSD with stab wounds and is currently in stable condition.

CVPD is communicating with the San Diego Police Department during the investigation.

Chula Vista Police Detectives are not releasing the name of the suspect or victim at this time.
