11/13/14, press release: Motor Vehicle Accident with 2 Pedestrians

On November 13, 2014, at approximately 1033 hours Burlington Police responded to the intersection of Maple St. and Battery St. for a report of a single motor vehicle accident involving two pedestrians that had been run over by the vehicle.

On arrival the female pedestrian, Tamara Jones of Burlington was conscious and alert but still laying partially under the vehicle. The second pedestrian Robert Niccolai of Charlotte was up and walking around.

Through speaking to the victims and witnesses it was determined that the operator of the vehicle, Binto Mohamed of Colchester had been stationary in the roadway when Jones and Niccolai began crossing the roadway behind the vehicle. Mohamed began backing up and struck Jones and Niccolai causing both to fall to the ground. While on the ground the vehicle continued to back up and ultimately ran over Jones’ leg and dragged Niccolai approximately 20 feet.

Jones and Niccolai were transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for non life threatening injuries.

Mohamed advised she looked before she backed up but did not see the pedestrians until she struck them. Alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor in this accident.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Cpl. Kevin Wilson of the Burlington Police Department (802-540-2263).
