Beverly Shores Man Robbed and Assaulted on I-80

Gary, Lake County-Yesterday, Tuesday, November 11, 2014, evening a Beverly Shores man was robbed of his cell phone and assaulted.

Preliminary investigation revealed at approximately 8:06 p.m., yesterday, a twenty-three year old man from Beverly Shores, was picked up at his home earlier in the evening by two unknown black males, an unknown white female and a friend in a maroon Jeep Sport Utility Vehicle. Victim stated they drove to a gas station in Porter, got gas, and then got onto I-94 heading west bound. He stated the driver pulled the Jeep over on I-80 west bound at the 7.5 mile marker (this is 1 ½ miles east of Burr Street) and pulled a gun on him and informed him it was a robbery and to give him his money. The victim refused to give up his money and the occupants began to assault him, hitting him in the face, and going through his pockets. The driver threatened to kill him. The victim at some point was robbed of his cell phone.

The victim fought back and the occupants got him out of the car and left him alongside the interstate where a trooper found him shortly thereafter. The victim was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with a laceration to his nose and forehead, a black eye and swelling to the right side of his face (non-life threatening injuries).

This is an ongoing investigation.

The Indiana State Police is asking if anyone saw this vehicle/occupants or the struggle that occurred on the interstate please call Detective Gary Runde at the Lowell Post at 219-690-0041.
