11/8/14, press release: motor vehicle complaint

On 08 November 2014 at approximately 1235 hours the Burlington Police Department received a complaint reporting a green Honda operating erratically in the area of Cottage Grove Drive. The complainant advised that a green Honda was all over the road, had struck a curb and was operating slowly. Members of the Burlington Police Department responded and located the suspect vehicle in the area of 1530 North Avenue.

Officers eventually identified the operator as Jeffrey Kane (43) after he initially provided Officers with false information concerning his identity. Kane completed field sobriety exercises and it was determined that he was not impaired. Kane was subsequently arrested for driving with a suspended license and for providing false information to a Police Officer. Kane was transported to the Burlington Police Department where he was processed and released on a citation to appear in court at a later date.

At 1433 hours, approximately 15 minutes after Kane was released, the Burlington Police Department received a complaint of a green Honda operating recklessly in the area of Spring Street and Manhattan Drive. The green Honda was reportedly speeding, jumping curbs and cutting other motor vehicles off as it proceeded toward the City of Winooski, VT via Riverside Avenue. Based on the complainants information the green Honda was identified as the same vehicle that Kane was previously operating prior to his arrest.

Officers from the Burlington Police Department and the Winooski Police Department responded. As a result, the green Honda and the operator, Jeffrey Kane were eventually located on Abenaki Way in Winooski, VT. Kane was subsequently arrested for driving with a suspended license and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Kane was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on $2000 bail. Kane is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Chittenden Superior Criminal Court on 11/10/2014.
