Child rescued after falling from cliff at Bodega Head
On November 10, 2014, at approximately 4:56 PM, deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bodega Head State Park at 3799 Westshore Road, Bodega Bay to assist fire and emergency services personnel from the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District, Cal Fire, California State Parks, and helicopter crews from the California Highway Patrol, and United Sates Coast Guard with an in-progress recue of a 4-year old child who fell an unknown distance down a cliff.
The child was visiting the state park with his parents and sibling at the time of this incident. Fire personnel repelled down a cliff using ropes and were able to reach the child and rescue him. The child suffered multiple injuries. A medical helicopter arriving on scene to airlift the child was unable to land in the vicinity of this incident due to the weather conditions and low visibility. The child was transported to a Santa Rosa Hospital via ambulance for medical treatment.
