Trick-or-Treater Hit by Vehicle Halloween Night

On October 31, 2014 at approximately 7:23 p.m., Los Banos Police Officers responded to the 1800 Block of Sonoma Way regarding a minor injury vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision.

The officers contacted the driver, 28-year-old Francisco Sanchez at the scene. Sanchez was reportedly traveling westbound on Sonoma at a low speed when the 5-year-old victim ran out in front of Sanchez’ silver 2001 Chevrolet Silverado.

“The boy’s mother let him out of the vehicle to go trick-or-treating and the excited child ran across the road into the path of the truck. Thankfully, the driver was traveling at a slow speed and using caution.”
- Jason Hedden, Police Commander

Sanchez was cooperative with officers at the scene and voluntarily provided a blood sample. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The 5-year-old was transported to a local hospital and treated for an injury to his arm. The boy is expected to make a full recovery.
