Afternoon House Fire Reminds The Importance of Working Smoke Alarms

Maricopa, ARIZ.( November 6, 2014) At approximately 12:00pm, Maricopa Fire crews responded to a reported house fire in the 20000 Block of Gibson Rd. Residents reported hearing the smoke alarms going off and saw smoke in the laundry room area on the second floor of their home. When crews arrived on scene, they found thick smoke on the second floor of the home and quickly contained the fire to the laundry room.

All residents were able to exit the home safety and no firefighters were injured. Maricopa Fire Department fire investigators are on scene conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Smoke alarms save lives. This incident illustrates the importance of having smoke alarms thorough your home and keeping them in working condition. This is a great item to check your smoke alarm batteries or replace the entire unit if it has expired. During the changing of the seasons the fire department runs on numerous smoke alarm calls. Most of these calls are for dead batteries or dirty detectors. Please take some time to make sure your batteries are fresh and your units are clean. Simply blowing dust out of your detector can avoid the 3am false alarm activation as the units sense the dust as particles of smoke.
