Impersonating a Peace Officer Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) A Glencoe man has been arrested after he posed a law enforcement officer, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Harold Elloit Helms, 56, of Glencoe, was arrested on October 31, and is charged with one count of impersonating a peace officer, one count of first degree possession of marijuana, both are felonies,” investigator Tyler St. Clair said. Helms is also charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of certain chemical compounds, which are misdemeanors.

Helms walked into Riverview Regional Hospital, on October 29, with a handgun openly visible on his side. When confronted by hospital security he identified himself as a Glencoe police officer and stated he is assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Investigators discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and synthetic marijuana while executing a search warrant that was obtained for his residence on Edgar Road, Glencoe.

Helms was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $14,500 bond.

The U.S. Marshals Service and FBI assisted with the investigation.
