On October 31, 2014, a detective with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Pine Tree Manor, in Moscow Mills, to obtain a written witness statement from a previous incident that occurred earlier in the day.
While in the residence talking with the witness, 45-year old, George Michael Harris, of Moscow Mills, walked out of a back bedroom and started berating the detective. This went on for several minutes before Harris return to his bedroom.
Convinced the detective was not a law enforcement officer, Harris rushed the detective from the back bedroom and attacked him violently. During the altercation, Harris struck the detective in the face with his knee and attempted to get control of the detective’s weapon saying, “I am going to kill you.”
The detective fought for his life until backup arrived, 10 minutes later.
The on scene witness called in the assault to 911 emergency communications. The detective did not sustain significant injuries; however, suffers from headaches as the result of being struck in the head.
Harris is charged with Felony First Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and is currently housed at the Lincoln County Jail under a $100,000 cash only bond. Other conditions of bond may apply.
