Driver Arrested After Fleeing Trooper in Sullivan County

Sullivan County—This evening at 5:04, Indiana State Police Trooper T.J. Henning clocked a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado at 85 miles-per-hour in a 60mph zone southbound on US 41 near County Road 975 South. Trooper Henning pulled in behind the vehicle, which had sped up to 90 mph and had no registration plate, and activated his emergency lighting. After a few seconds and the driver reaching around numerous times inside the vehicle, the pickup stopped near the Knox/Sullivan County line on US 41. Trooper Henning approached the driver and requested his driver’s license. The driver became agitated and fled northbound on US 41 in the truck. Additional troopers from the Putnamville Post and Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area. The suspect vehicle continued to flee police over numerous county roads and through various farm fields in southwest Sullivan County. Troopers from the Evansville District and deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office were also sent to the area to assist.

At approximately 5:43 p.m., the suspect crashed the pickup in a field across from Shaker Prairie Church at 3217 West CR 1075 South in southwestern Sullivan County. The suspect exited the vehicle and immediately engaged in a physical confrontation with Evansville District troopers Nicholas Hatfield and James Dotson and a Knox County Sheriff’s deputy. A Taser device was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect vehicle, 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, was reportedly stolen over the weekend from a Terre Haute auto dealer.
