Rensselaer Man in Serious Condition after being Hit by Wrong Way Driver

Jasper County-A Rensselaer man was seriously injured, late yesterday evening, when a wrong way driver on I-65 struck his vehicle head on.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Danielle Elwood revealed that at approximately 11:31p.m., yesterday, Saturday, November 1, 2014, a 1999 Mercury, driven by Brian Bohlke, 42 of Rensselaer was south bound on I-65 in the left lane near the 223 mile marker (this is three miles north of the Fair Oaks exit) when he encountered a 2009 Mercedes traveling the wrong way. The Mercedes, driven by Luis Aminto Alicea, 55 of Valparaiso, was going north bound in the south bound lanes of I-65 when it hit Bohlke’s Mercury head on.

Both vehicle sustained heavy front end damage. Alicea was taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer with internal injuries. Charges are pending for being under the influence of alcohol and narcotics.

Bohlke was taken to Jasper County Hospital with serious internal injuries; charges are pending for possession of marijuana less than 30 grams. His two school aged children were also taken to Jasper County Hospital as a precaution for treatment. Family was notified.
