TYPE OF CRIME: Unlawful cultivation of Marijuana

Details:

On October 29, 2014 at about 2:00 pm, the Gilroy Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team executed a narcotics related search warrant at the above listed address.

Investigators were provided information from concerned community members about a potential illegal cultivation operation taking place at the above location which is located at the northern end of Gilroy. Anti-Crime Team detectives developed probable cause to support the suspicions of the concerned citizens. A Superior Court judge authorized a search warrant of the warehouse, which was approximately 5,000 square feet in size.

Investigators found over 550 marijuana plants being tended to. They were in varying stages of processing and they were seized. The estimated street value of this seized crop is approximately $1 million dollars. No suspects were located at the scene.

This investigation is on-going and no further information will be released at this time. Preliminarily, it is suspected that the primary suspects may have ties to the city of San Jose. Anti-Crime Team Detectives are working with San Jose Police Officers in an effort to identified those responsible for this clandestine operation.

Typically these operations bring a level of danger and expose the surrounding areas to unnecessary risks of fire and a criminal element that we are not willing to tolerate as a community.
