10/29/2014 press release: 4 Vehicle Crash

On October 29, 2014 at approximately 5:00pm, the Burlington Police Department came upon a motor vehicle crash on Battery Street just north of the intersection with College Street. The police discovered numerous vehicles involved and that the vehicles involved had suffered significant damage. Burlington Police requested Burlington Fire & Rescue responded to address any potential medical needs as well as fluids that were leaking from multiple vehicles. It was determined that the crash involved (4) motor vehicles.

Due to the volume of traffic and concerns for safety of those involved as well as for police and fire personnel, the south bound lanes of traffic on Battery Street was closed temporarily while officers conducted their investigation of the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicates that vehicles 1, 2, and 3 were traveling south on Battery Street and came to a stop while in traffic. Vehicle 4 who was traveling south on Battery Street collided with the rear portion of vehicle 3 creating a chain reaction forcing vehicle 3 into vehicle 2 and vehicle 2 into vehicle 1. More details will be released pending an investigation which is being conducted by the Burlington Police Department at this time. There are no initial signs indicating that drugs or alcohol or distractions due to usage of electronic devices were a factor in this crash.

The Burlington Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Officer Jim Trieb of the Burlington Police Department at 802-540-2251.
