Placement of Sexually Violent Predator SUSPENDED
The Placement of a Sexually Violent Predator in Borrego Springs has been SUSPENDED. Gary Snavely will remain at Coalinga State Hospital pending further court proceedings.
The Department of State Hospitals or DSH initially chose a house in Borrego Springs as Snavely's potential new address upon his release. The location has been withdrawn by DSH.
A public forum regarding the proposed placement scheduled for December 5th has been CANCELLED. The public will be notified when DHS has chosen a new site for the placement.
The Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement or SAFE Task Force will not process any further public comments regarding the Borrego Springs address.
The Sheriff's Department or SAFE Task Force is not responsible for the selection of the proposed site. That selection process is the sole responsibility of the Department of State Hospitals and San Diego Superior Court.
Gary Snavely was convicted of molesting two girls between the ages of 8 and 9 in the 80s. He served three years in prison, but returned behind bars after violating the conditions of his parole. He was also convicted of failing to register as a sex offender while living in San Diego in the 90s.
