On October 26, 2014 at approximately 0120 hours Ptl Jon Losquadro was parked stationary on Norwood Ave in the Borough of Deal. Ptl Losquadro’s police car was struck from behind at a high rate of speed by the accused vehicle. The impact was so severe that the police car was pushed up onto the sidewalk and ultimately into a light pole. The accused vehicle then fled the scene with heavy front end damage traveling northbound on Norwood Ave into Long Branch. Ptl Losquadro attempted to pursue the accused vehicle but was unable to because his patrol car sustained significant damage during the crash.

Deal Patrol Officers Brad Kerney and Dave Talty responded immediately to Ptl Losquadro’s location to check on his well-being. Ptl Losquadro immediately provided a description of the accused vehicle and Officers Kerney and Talty, along with officers from the Long Branch Police Department, were able to locate the vehicle on Park Terrace in Long Branch. Ptl Losquadro was transported to Monmouth Medical Center for evaluation. The Deal Police Department would like to thank The Long Branch Police Department for their assistance in apprehending the accused.

The accused, Tony Dias Da Costa out of Long Branch, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Da Coasta was further charged with assault by auto while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, refusal to submit to a chemical breath test, careless driving, reckless driving, expired license, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, failure to report an accident, failure to possess a driver’s license, failure to exhibit documents and being an uninsured motorist. Da Costa was transported to Monmouth Medical Center for evaluation. Da Costa was then released to a responsible, sober adult pending a court date.
