Mail Theft Suspects Caught

On 10-28-2014, at approximately 4:00 AM, members from the Signal Hill Police Department’s Detective Bureau were conducting surveillance in the 2200 Block of Ohio Avenue as a result of the ongoing mail theft that has plagued the city since May of 2014. During the surveillance, a maroon Chevy Equinox stopped in the middle of the street and two occupants exited the vehicle. The female driver walked to a cluster mailbox that was in front of a condominium complex. The female suspect then used a screwdriver to pry open the four mail boxes to access the mail inside. As the female suspect was committing the theft, the male passenger stood by the vehicle and acted as the “look out.”

After the two suspects drove out of the area, the mail boxes were inspected and it was confirmed that the mailboxes had been tampered with. The suspect’s vehicle was stopped a short distance away and mail belonging to a Signal Hill resident was located inside the vehicle. In the trunk of the vehicle, three packages that were purchased by means of identity theft were recovered.

Both suspects from Los Angeles were arrested for various crimes related to mail theft.

This investigations is ongoing.
