Advisory

Beware of phone scams.

During the last several months, we have received several citizen reports of possible telephone scams. Citizens have reported receiving telephone calls from unknown subjects claiming to be law enforcement representatives who state that a family member is in custody and they need to pay a large sum of money to get their family member out of jail. On one occasion, the caller stated that a drug shipment that was being delivered to the citizen’s home had been intercepted, and a large sum of money needed to be paid to take care of it.

These calls are not legitimate and are not from law enforcement representatives. We recommend never wiring money, or paying cash to any source unless you are absolutely sure it is legitimate.
